Warhammer Scratch Built Scenery Modeling - inspired, simple and free !

Free Warhammer Fantasy Battle buildings ! Just add time and imagination.

I stumbled across this during my regular Saturday morning surf. What a great idea, all gamers will have the raw materials to hand so all you need is a bit of planning, free time and your imagination. The pictures are of small half built hut or maybe a workman or armourer's tool shed or even a small shop. It doesn't really matter, it makes an excellent addition to a small village or outpost under attack my marauding goblin wolf riders !

"I hope you all like it. All I used was cardboard, Super glue, wood glue, dirt and Sprues." by EmpireGuard from The Battle Bunker forum (http://forum.battlebunker.com/viewtopic.php?p=2712)

Inspiring !

An incredible Fantasy Building project - from a Warhammer Gamer / Painter

Check out Bag End in all it's glory from Maddie Chambers. A lady who honed her modeling and painting skills as a Fantasy Battle gamer !

I'm not certain of the scale, it's a lot bigger than our beloved 28mm Warhammer but take a look at the attention to detail and the pure skill that went into this model ! Simply amazing.

For loads more pics and a project overview from Maddie :- madshobbithole.wordpress.com/

You can also leave comments on here site above if you want to show your appreciation.

PS. I know this isn't strictly Warhammer but it's inspiring modeling !

"The rug took me a LONG time to do.  I looked everywhere for one similar to the one in the movie but couldn’t find one I was happy with so in the end I used good old Microsoft Paint and drew the design myself from the rug in the movie! then printed it onto cotton and sewed the rest of the rug." MC.

Last but not least... a miniature hobbit pantry stuffed to the rafters !

"The pantry – I installed shelves and filled full of food – I made all the food in here from Fimo." MC

"I based some on the movie, some on the book and some on my imagination. The food in the kitchen and pantry includes everything mentioned in The Hobbit when the dwarves and Gandalf come to visit: beer, cakes, tea, seed cake, coffee, porter, scones, red wine, raspberry jame, apple tart, mince pies, cheese, pork pie salad, eggs, cold chicken, pickles and ham. (anything you can’t see on the shelves is in the little store cupboard behind glass doors or in drawers – couldn’t fit everything on the shelves)."

That's what I mean by attention to detail !

Warhammer Fantasy Buildings, Terrain and Scenery Models - thinking BIG with your modelling projects

Massive Warhammer Battle projects can be scary but taking a modular approach can help you out.

Don't be deterred from taking on those big Fantasy model building and painting projects. The way you approach the project is key to the outcome and your enjoyment along the way.

Ok, first of all I'm going to show you some incredible buildings, one is for use in Mordheim and the other is a High Elf Sea Port diorama in Lord of the Rings style. I'm including the pics just to show you what is possible and hopefully to provide you with some inspiration.

First of all, it's important to realise that the examples below were created by extremely skillful modellers and will only have been possible after a lot of practice and experience (during which I'm sure they made many mistakes !)

Taking a step-by-step approach to model building.

I am no expert at project management or modelling but I think the best approach to large projects is to make an overall plan and then break it up into small manageable mini-projects. You can then give yourself a pat on the back when you complete each part and it will seem like an achievement in it's own right.

Obviously, this will be easier where building or scenery can be constructed as stand alone parts and added together at a later date to complete the overall model. The Mordheim city below is a good example of modular, interchangeable scenery.

Personally, when I have a large project on the go I try not to get myself tied up in knots on the difficult parts. I do the easy bits first because successfully completing them encourages me to take on the next bits. If you get stuck, leave that part of the project and move onto another part.

Last but not least, always focus on the end result you're trying to achieve and how pleased you will be to show it off to your fellow gamers. Don't waste your energy dwelling about the amount of work involved or the problems you are currently facing.

Good luck folks, I hope this has provided you with some inspiration.

High Elf Sea Port

Truly awesome Elven themed buildings and scenery make up this extremely impressive Sea Port.

It's more of an eye popping diorama rather than battlefield scenery, although I guess you could use it for role playing or small skirmishes.

Mordheim Modular Cityscape Gaming Board

This looks more like a genuine gaming board than a diorama although you could probably spend a long time just admiring the attention to detail (check out the cobwebs in the slideshow - perfection).

A Dark Elf Tower Masterpiece !

Warhammer Fantasy scenery and buildings do not come any better than this ! This imposing Dark Elf tower and the accompanying miniatures have been masterfully painted and presented by CultOfKhaine.com

The tower itself looks like it's a very well designed model, absolutely perfect for Dark Elves. The work that has gone into the overall diorama is even more impressive. Check out the cadaver, still holding his spear with a hole in his chest and with missing lower torso and legs (maybe torn off by a cold one ?). The bones of tortured captives still in their cages. The fire effect on the torches, the general stone work, lichen, moss, banners, the firebird on the roof.

I can only admire the amount of effort and skill that went into this. The vibrant colours, the attention to detail, superb photography and overall presentation make this a real eye catcher. Awesome !

I've added Cult of Khaine to this site's blogroll to make sure we don't miss his future updates. He's going to have one hell of a fantastic Dark Elf army when he's finished !

Cult of Khaine purchased this tower from monolith-icon.eu, a polish company with a very atractive website (slow to load but worth the wait). I tried searching for the tower but couldn't find it on the site so I'm not sure if it's still available or maybe just out of stock.
